40 Years In Prison For Phillip Raymond In State Child Sex Abuse Case
The day after a federal sentencing, Marlborough's Phillip Raymond appeared at Middlesex Superior Court to face more child sex abuse charges.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A Marlborough man accused of sexually abusing over a dozen children was given a hefty prison sentence in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn this week, one day after he received a similarly severe sentence from a federal court judge.
Phillip Raymond, a former bitcoin expert, was charged with multiple child sex abuse crimes by both state and federal prosecutors. After getting a 60-year sentence in federal court on Wednesday, a Middlesex Superior Court judge on Thursday sentenced Raymond to up to 40 years on state charges.
The two prison sentences — which will run concurrently — mean that the 65-year-old will almost certainly spend the rest of his life in prison.

According to both state and federal prosecutors, Raymond spent years trying to manufacture child pornography using his own children and their friends. Prosecutors say Raymond abused or attempted to abuse 13 children. The abuse took place between 2004 and 2012, according to prosecutors.
Middlesex County prosecutors charged Raymond with three counts of forcible rape of a child, one count of aggravated child rape, one count of child rape, nine counts of assault on a child, five counts of possession of child pornography and one count of secretly recording a person, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office.
