Supplier to Walmart Recalls 89,000 Pounds of Beef

A beef company that supplies Walmart recalled possibly contaminated products.

Based in Sauk Rapids, MN, Huisken Meat Company, is recalling approximately 89,568 pounds of beef products that may be contaminated with extraneous wood materials, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on Jan. 4.

The Sam’s Choice Black Angus Vidalia Onion items were produced on various dates between Nov. 19, 2015, and Dec. 9, 2015.

Sam’s Choice is a label created for Walmart stores, and the product was shipped nationwide, according to the USDA.

Boxes that were possible affected are two-pound boxes containing six pieces of “Sam’s Choice Black Angus Beef Patties with 19% Vidalia ® Onion.” The “Use By” dates are 05/17/2016, 05/29/2016 and 06/06/2016.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 394A” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The foreign material originated with an incoming ingredient and was discovered during production.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products, said the USDA in the announcement. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
