Chip Faulkner, the Associate Director at Citizens for Limited Taxation, blasted Gregoire today for claiming she voted against the gas tax increase, and tying it to inflation.
“She voted specifically against an amendment that would’ve struck the gas tax indexing to inflation on April 8 (RC 57). She also voted against removing the 3 cent increase (RC 56),” Faulkner explained.

Rep. Gregoire also voted to over-ride the Governor’s veto of the transportation bill, which was the final vote to implement $500M in new taxes, including the gas tax.
Non-partisan taxpayer-watchdog groups are lining up to call out Rep. Gregoire about her campaign literature. Last week, Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance set out a flyer saying that she voted for the gas tax increase and automatically increasing it every year (RC 113).
Tank the Gas Tax PAC was the first group to come out criticizing Rep. Gregoire for lying about her record.
“She should own her voting record. Her campaign literature is blatantly and shamefully false. She should reprint it with her correct voting record and apologize to the people of her district,” said Marty Lamb, chairman of the PAC.
Marlborough City Councilor Matt Elder (R-Marlborough), Gregoire’s opponent this election, was also concerned about Gregoire’s apparent desire to mislead voters.
“The Representative is using the first bullet point on her campaign literature to lie. She may as well be claiming that the earth is also, in fact, flat.” Elder said. “While career politicians like Rep. Gregoire are used to nuancing their voting record in a desperate attempt at re-election, we hope the voters can’t be fooled.”
Rep Gregoire currently scores a 12% rating from Mass Fiscal Alliance, and a 13% from Citizens for Limited Taxation.
“Matt Elder will be receiving our endorsement, as he is the only friend of the taxpayer in this election. Rep. Gregoire has a history of raising taxes, increasing spending, and she is now misrepresenting her record.” Faulkner said.
“I am very proud to be given CLT’s endorsement,” Elder said. “It shows all the voters in the Fourth Middlesex District that I’m the only candidate who will vote for lower taxes and more fiscal responsibility on Beacon Hill.”
