Weather Service Confirms Tornado in Worcester

A tornado touched down close to home.

On Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Worcester and Middlesex Counties. Less than an hour later, the warning was lifted for the county. But not Worcester proper.

NWS confirmed that a tornado touched down between 8:10 and 8:14 p.m. With an estimated maximum wind speed of 85 mph and a path width of .1 miles, it ripped through 1.7 miles in Worcester. It initially touched down near the intersection of Perry Avenue and Fairfax Road, just to the east of I-290 and north of Route 146. It passed east of St. Vincent Hospital, ending on Gordon Street.

For the surrounding areas, that meant for many a lot of rain and wind. There were no fatalities or injuries.
