4th of July and Alcohol

The Fourth of July is arguably one of the biggest holidays on the Vineyard. Cookouts, fireworks, and the draw crowds from around the country. Crowds that are ready to celebrate. So what does this mean for liquor stores on the island? 

An employee of Vineyard Wine and Spirits in Oak Bluffs, Chris, expects everying to sell out. "I mean, Christmas, Easter and the 4th of July...those are our three biggest days. The Fourth of July is probably our biggest." The most popular drink of choice is beer. "Beer. All beer. Corona...everything. Everything goes," he said.

Manager of Vineyard Wine and Spirits, Vera-Jean Clements, is used to the social scene in Oak Bluffs. "The town gets crazy, but the town is crazy all summer anyway so you know?...The celebration of the Fourth of July, you know you have your partiers...everybody gets a little crazy."

Chris explains that he often catches people using fake IDs at the liquor store. But it's something store owners are aware of and prepared for regardless of the holiday.

As always, it's better to be safe then sorry. There are plenty of taxi services on the Island to make sure you get to your destination safely.
