Shark Week Starts Early
July 31st is the official start of "Shark Week" on the Discovery Channel, but someone forgot to tell the Martha's Vineyard Sharks, as they won yet another game this week.
For those that do not know, July 31st is the official start of “Shark Week” on the Discovery Channel. Someone forgot to tell the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks as they won yet another game this week, this time against the first place Nashua Silver Knights. This is the third straight game that the Sharks have beaten the team occupying first place (previously took two straight from the Torrington Titans).
This was a game that the Sharks had to win as they entered tonight’s game two games out of the playoff picture on the loss side. They trailed both the Torrington Titans who are in second place and the first place Silver Knights by two games on the loss side. The Titans lost their game tonight to the Seacoast Mavericks 1 – 0. The Sharks are now one game out of first place on the loss side.
Last week on Martha's Vineyard was the official 25th Annual Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament on the harbor in Oak Bluffs The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks beg to differ…The Monster Sharks Tournament started this week at Vineyard Baseball Park! Jeremy “the Monster” Matos blasted three homeruns in tonight’s game to take the HR lead in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (12). Matos is batting .360 and in 2nd place in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League as he went 4 - 4 during the game. The final blow was a walk-off homerun (9) by the Sharks clutch shortstop Robbie Zinsmeister who is second in HRs in the league behind the Monster and is batting .358 and in 3rd place in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.

The Sharks received strong relief pitching from JD Dickinson (4.2 innings and no earned runs), Kyle Contino and Adam Cherry, who picked up the save.
The Sharks head to Nashua NH to play the Silver Knights on Friday and Saturday. They have six games remaining in the regular season. They return to the Vineyard Sunday to play the Titans for four straight games to end the season. They play the Titans in Torrington on Monday, then end the season at home playing them Tuesday and Wednesday.
