Sharks in a Fight for their Lives

Sharks lose to titans 1-0.

The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks lost a heartbreaker in Torrington, CT last night against the Torrington Titans. Adam Cherry of the Sharks was outdueled by the Titans’ Tyler Erickson in a 1-0 game. The final spot in the FCBL playoffs is up for grabs with the Sharks on the short side.

The Sharks must win the final two games of the regular season today and tomorrow against the team ahead of them—the Titans—in order to make the playoffs.

Both games will be played in Martha's Vineyard at 5 p.m.

Torrington scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the third. Cole Harrison led off the inning with a double to left off Sharks pitcher Cherry. Matt O’Neill then followed with a double of his own to score Harrison.

Martha’s Vineyard was threatening in the top of the eighth. Max Goodman was on third and Ronnie Rosario was at first. With Robbie Zinsmeister up to bat, Tyler Erickson was able to get him to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning and threat.

Erickson pitched a complete game, striking out fourteen and giving up only three hits in a scoreless effort. Cherry of the Sharks pitched seven innings, giving up one run on six hits. The win is crucial for the Titans, as they gained a game on the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks in the race for the final playoff spot.
