Cape Cod Dolphin Rescue

A female dolphin stranded itself in Wellfleet Monday.

WELLFLEET, MA — A dolphin was rescued Monday after it stranded itself in Wellfleet. The female dolphin got stuck in the oyster flats at Chequessett Neck and was spotted by passersby around noon. A crew from the nonprofit International Fund for Animal Welfare arrived found the dolphin in distress. Scientists evaluated the mammal and tagged her fin. She was loaded into a trailer and released back into open water in Provincetown at Herring Cove Beach.

"All reports show her doing well on her way to deeper water tonight," officials from the welfare group said in a statement Monday night.
