Cape Cod DUI Suspect Fled Crash Scene, Leaves Bumper: Police

Yarmouth police said Nicholas Harrington was drunk when he crashed Saturday and 11 a.m. then fled the scene. But he left some clues.

YARMOUTH, MA — An underage Cape Cod drunk driver made it easy for officers to connect him to a crash over the weekend — as the impact tore his bumper off with his license plate still attached, according to police. Nicholas Harrington, 20, of Dennis, was arrested Saturday and charged with a host of crimes. He was booked and scheduled for an arraignment Monday in Barnstable District Court.

Harrington had been drinking alcohol with several other youths in the Stratford Lane neighborhood Friday night into early Saturday and was still drunk when he crashed into a tree on that road just before 11 a.m., police said. The impact tore off the front bumper of his Volkswagen Passat with the license plate attached, police said, and Harrington proceeded to flee on foot.

"Officers were searching the area and found an individual identified as Nicholas Harrington, at the corner of Oxford Road and Stratford Lane," Yarmouth police said in a statement. "Harrington appeared disheveled, leaves were stuck to his white long sleeve shirt and pants, a large skinny cut on his right hand, and dried blood on his shirt."
