Coronavirus: Island Towns Require Grocery Store Face Coverings

Edgartown and Tisbury are two towns now requiring is requiring all individuals entering a store to wear a face covering.

EDGARTOWN, MA — Edgartown and Tisbury has become two of the latest communities to require all those in grocery stores — both workers and customers — to wear face coverings. The order from the Edgartown Board of Health went into effect on Saturday, after Tisbury's Board of Health required the measure on Thursday.

The respective Boards of Health said that, although a cloth face covering, surgical mask or building trade mask is ideal, any close-fitting fabric — such as a layered scarf — is acceptable. A proper face covering covers the nose and the mouth in a close-fitting, yet comfortable, fashion.

Customers on the island are also asked to shop one person at a time for the entire family, wash hands prior to entering a store, maintain at least 6 feet between themselves and other shoppers and employees wherever possible, and follow one-way arrows for aisles where applicable.
