Photography by Ed Grazda, David Welch, Elissa Turnbull, Emily Drazen, Kathryn Osgood and Edwina Rissland
Ed Grazda's classic, black-and-white documentary photographs from Afghanistan, made prior to 9/11, chronicle the post-Soviet years, the violent civil war, and the rise of the extremist Taliban.
David Welch's 'Material World' is a response to our contemporary consumer milieu. By treating these artifacts of consumer culture as Duchampian-inspired Assisted Readymades, he photographed assemblages, constructed by his own hand to form monuments and totems that serve as precarious externalizations of culture and social biography.
