New Preschool Summer Camp Celebrates the Vineyard’s Natural Treasures

Garden Arts, a new summer program for young children aged two to five, will be the only camp on Martha’s Vineyard to offer a daily five-hour program for toddlers and preschoolers. The camp’s focus will be on connecting children to the delights of nature on Martha’s Vineyard.   Each camp session will focus on a specific Vineyard ecosystem.  From The Wonderful Woods to By the Sea, camp sessions will nurture the relationship between children and the natural world. Through creative and artistic experiences, children will take in the splendor of trees, explore the colors and contours of seashells, expose the hidden potential in a piece of natural clay, and enjoy the harvest of their own garden.

Located at Garden Gate Child Development Center in Vineyard Haven, the camp will continue to be influenced by the preschool approach from Reggio Emilia, Italy, an approach that offers children multiple creative “languages” through which to interpret the world.  Children will enjoy working in both the indoor and outdoor art studios with local artists, creating their own connections with the Vineyard and its treasure.
