Great White Shark Spotted Off Cape Cod

Cue the “Jaws” theme—a great white shark was spotted off the coast of Chatham Monday afternoon.

Researchers tagged the shark, which they estimated to be 12-13 feet, off the south cut of Chatham.

By the way—this week marks the start of the Discovery Channel’s popular “Shark Week.”

It was the second great white sighting off the Cape Cod coast this season. Last month, researchers spotted this one near Orleans:

The Cape Cod sightings come amid a gruesome shark season in the United States. Last month, two teenagers lost arms in shark attacks in North Carolina. And last week, a Wareham man fought off another shark attack in North Carolina.
