High School Closed Wednesday To Honor Teacher's Passing
A memorial service for special needs teacher Joyanne Flanders will be held tomorrow at Abel's Hill cemetery in Chilmark.
will be closed Wednesday to accomodate the funeral arrangements of longtime teacher Joyanne Flanders.
Flanders, a special needs teacher, died this weekend after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 54.
“In order for the faculty to participate in the service, we will have to close school Wednesday, February 23rd,” the school announced. “All classes are cancelled for the school day. All school activities will still take place."

A memorial service for Flanders will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Abel’s Hill Cemetery in Chilmark, followed by a reception at the .
All other Island schools will be in session. The high school will make up the day at the end of the school year.
