Iconic MA Donut Shop Is No. 4 In The Nation, New Ranking Says

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — An iconic donut shop that's been around for decades is getting national recognition.

Back Door Donuts, the Martha's Vineyard bakery known for its hot donuts, was named the No. 4 Best Donut Shop in the U.S. in the 2026 USA TODAY 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards.

The annual awards recognize standout restaurants across the country. Nominees are chosen by a panel of experts before winners are determined through a public voting process.

Located at 5 Post Office Square in Oak Bluffs, Back Door Donuts traces its roots to the late 1940s and has built a devoted following among locals and visitors alike. The shop is known for its apple fritters, raspberry jelly donuts, and classic fried donuts.

The Martha's Vineyard location is open Fridays through Sundays from morning to early afternoon.

Back Door Donuts also operates a pop-up at Loretta’s Last Call, 1 Lansdowne St. in Boston, where customers can grab late-night donuts served through a side door.

The latest honor comes a year after Back Door Donuts placed No. 5 in the same category in 2025.

Rounding out the top three donut shops for 2026 were Donald’s Donuts in Ohio at No. 1, Happy Place Homemade in New Jersey at No. 2, and The Bakery Unlimited in Iowa at No. 3.
