Islanders Well Represented in Boston Marathon

Nine Martha's Vineyard runners completed the 26.3-mile race Monday.

Tisbury resident Paul Vertefeuille, 46, was the first Islander to cross the finish line Monday after completing the 26.3-mile race.

Vertefeuille ran the course in 3 hours, 13 minutes and 42 seconds, putting him in 3,663th place out of 27,000 runners, according to official results posted on the Boston Athletic Association Web site.

Marylee Schroeder, 46, of West Tisbury, was the first woman to cross the finish line, according to the BAA. Schroeder finished 7,199th overall and 1226th out of 11,462 women competing, with a time of 3 hours, 28 minutes 30 seconds.

The winner of the 2011 Boston Marathon was Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai, 29, who finished in a time of 2 hours, 3 minutes and 2 seconds, according to the BAA. Also from Kenya, the top female runner was Caroline Kilel, 30, with a time of 2 hours, 22 minutes and 36 seconds.
