Jazz Fest 2012 Performer Profile: Jason Moran
Jazz pianist Jason Moran will perform Monday August 6, 2012 as part of the MV Jazz Fest Jazz Club lineup.
Jason Moran is an artist to look out for during the . Since being signed to Blue Note Records, Moran has put out several ablums with his group, Bandwagon and has received several awards.
The Bandwagon consists of three musicians. Moran, bassist Tarus Mateen, and drummer Nasheet Waits. The group is known for being unique. Improvising has earned the group the reputation as being "the future of jazz."
In 2002, Moran recieved the Guiness Rising Star Award at the Cork Jazz Festival for his solo record, Modernistic. In 2003, the New York Times named The Bandwagon "the best new rhythm section in jazz." In 2005, Moran received the first ever Playboy Jazz Artist of the Year Award. Today, Moran is the musical advisor for Jazz at the Kennedy Center.
