Martha's Vineyard CPA Pleads Guilty to Tax Fraud Over $800K
The CPA underreported his gross receipts and rental income for tax years 2009 to 2011.

A local CPA pleaded guilty on Wednesday to underreporting over $800,0000 of income over a three year span, according to a press release from United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz, District of Massachusetts.
Roger A. Armstrong, 61, of Vineyard Haven, worked as CPA and tax preparer on Martha’s Vineyard and owned rental property in Massachusetts and Florida.
Armstrong was required to correctly report his gross receipts and his business profit or loss on his individual income tax returns and to report any rental income he received.

He underreported approximately $790,000 of gross receipts and $47,000 in rental income for tax years 2009 to 2011. Underreporting led him to not paying $200,000 in taxes, the press release reports.
Armstrong will be sentenced on Tuesday, April 28.

Armstrong faces up to three years in prison, one year of supervised release and a fine of $250,000, or twice the gain or loss, whichever is greater.
