Multihull Designer Dick Newick Dies at 87

The "sailboat design visionary," whose trimarans proved faster than competitors expected, lived on Martha's Vineyard for a time, according to his obituary in the New York Times.

Newick, whose trimaran designs proved more competitive than traditional multihull sailors had expected, spent part of his long life and career living on Martha's Vineyard with his wife, Patricia Ann.

"I suspect all the world multihullers will now feel fatherless. This is what I feel right now," posted Christian Fevrier on the Scuttlebutt Sailing News website, along with a photograph of Newick on the Vineyard in 1979.
