Portuguese Man O' War Found On Martha's Vineyard

Officials say there have been reports of the sea creatures washing up on shore.

EDGARTOWN, MA – Portuguese Man O' War have been reported on Martha's Vineyard, the Edgartown Parks Department said Thursday. The organization wrote on Facebook that it received multiple reports of the sea creature washing up on South Beach, urging people to "swim with caution."

The creature's sting is not typically deadly to people but "packs a painful punch and causes welts on exposed skin," according to the National Ocean Service. It may still sting you weeks after washing ashore, so be careful near it on the beach.
