Obama-Favored Island Restaurant Fined for "Blatant Violation"

Fined $1,600 and admonished by West Tisbury officials for overstepping the bounds of their permit, the owners of State Road Restaurant have scaled back to dinner service only, reports the Vineyard Gazette.

State Road Restaurant in West Tisbury has dropped its breakfast and lunch service after town officials called the owners to task for what one selectman called a "blatant violation" of the eatery's permit, reports the Vineyard Gazette.

The restaurants' owners admitted they had been using an unlicensed prep kitchen and apologized to the town, the Gazette reports.

State Road patrons have rushed to the restaurateurs' side in comments on the article, saying owners Jackson and Mary Kenworth should be commended for their support of local fisheries and agriculture.

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have dined at State Road during their Martha's Vineyard vacations, most recently last week.

Read the full Gazette article and then tell us what you think: Is the town coming down too hard on the Kenworths? Or did they deserve the fine and censure? Let us know in the comments.
