RUNNERS LEFT ON BASE DOWN SHARKS AGAINST TITANS

The Martha's Vineyard Sharks left 9 runners on base and lost to the Torrington Titans 3-2 on a cool night on the Vineyard. John Cook (Amherst) took on Pat Austin (UMASS Boston) for the Titans on the night. Both starters received a no-decision as neither lasted long enough for their team to retain a lead. The Sharks got off to a quick start with a run in the bottom of the 1st with an RBI from Brett Holmgren (Endicott). In the 3rd inning, both teams were able to score a run apiece. Brian Fay (Siena) crushed a homerun to centerfield for the Titans, Dylan Tice (IUP) continued his hot-hitting by blasting a homer of his own for the Sharks. This would, unfortunately, be all the runs the Sharks would be able to muster.

In the 7th, the Titans tied up the score with another RBI from Fay with an sacrifice fly to right field. The score would go in tied to the 9th. Jon Dunn (Le Moyne) would put two Titans on the bases before a Tim Bickford (Bridgeport) RBI single put the Titans ahead 3-2. The Sharks tried to mount a comeback in the bottom half of the inning, but a double-play would end the game. Dunn took the loss on the night for the Sharks and the Sharks have now fallen behind the Silver Knights by a full game. Dylan Tice kept up his hot hitting, with 2 homers in the past 2 games. Martha's Vineyard returns to action Sunday (7/28) against the Pittsfield Suns at 6:45 pm.
