Salisbury Beach Rescue: 1 Saved, 1 Missing

A boat capsized near Salisbury Beach Tuesday; one person was rescued and another is missing.

SALISBURY, MA — One person was rescued and another is missing after a boat capsized in the ocean near Salisbury Beach Tuesday night. The unaccounted for boater was still missing as of Wednesday afternoon; the Coast Guard said it suspended the search in the morning. The boater who was saved was not hurt, authorities said.

At about 5:40 p.m., Salisbury police notified the Coast Guard that two boaters were in the water after their boat capsized. One boat made it to a nearby jetty, where police officers rescued him. An Air Station Cape Cod helicopter crew was dispatched to the scene to help search for the second boater.

The Coast Guard said crews searched 14 square miles over the course of 17 hours and found nothing.
