Sharks' Streak Stopped by Rain

Nothing can stop the Martha's Vineyard Sharks, 3-0 at the top of their inaugural season—except rain.

It seems weather is only thing that can slow the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks' roll to victory.

On Friday, the Island’s new wooden-bat collegiate team debuted in front of a packed audience of more than 2,000, beating the New Hampshire–based Seacoast Mavericks 7-1. That victory has since been followed up by two more.

On Saturday, the Sharks once again defeated the Mavericks, in a 6-3 game that was called at the top of the eigth inning due to rain. Jay Swinford, of the University of Georgia, threw six no-hit innings. On Sunday, the team traveled off-Island to defeat the Nashua Silver Knights 8-6. Eric Jensen, of Wheaton College, and Jeremy Matos, of the University of Central Florida, led the way with three hits apiece.
