Tight Lines, High Tension: Derby Comes to an End

It’s down to the final hour. Following more than a month of steep competition, in which thousands took to the shores and sea to reel in hundreds of striped bass, bonito, bluefish and false albacore, the annual Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass & Bluefish Derby today comes to an end.

The final weigh-in will take place at 10 p.m. at Derby headquarters, on the Edgartown Harbor. Tomorrow, the Derby Committee will dole out thousands of dollars worth of prizes at the annual , to be held at 1 p.m. at . At that time, all eyes will be on eight skilled (and lucky) individuals—four offshore participants, plus four boating participants—who are vying for the Derby’s top prizes: a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup Truck and a 22-foot Eastern boat.

With only a few hours left, every cast counts. Here, we take a final look at the leader board still in progress and wish tight lines to everyone who has sacrificed a month of sunrises and sunsets for a chance at Derby glory.
