World's Largest Sailing Yacht Stops in Vineyard Haven

The 305-foot mega yacht, believed to be owned by billionaire Barry Diller, made a short stop off Martha's Vinyeard last week.

The largest private sailing yacht in the world made a short stop on the small island of Martha’s Vineyard this week. Eos, a 305-foot three-masted Bermuda rigged schooner, was seen anchored in Vineyard Haven on Friday and Saturday. Little information has been released about the yacht, but this is known: As of 2009, it was owned by billionaire Barry Diller, the creator of Fox Broadcasting Corporation. Diller is married to famed fashion designer Diane von Furstenburg.

According to www.marinetraffic.com, the yacht has been wending its way around the North Atlantic since at least May 4, making its way from New York, to the Vineyard, to Nantucket and Provincetown. It is currently anchored in Boston Harbor.

Eos is wind-propelled yacht that boasts three 200-foot masts. It has been valued in excess of $150 million.

The “mega yacht” is named after the rosy-fingered Greek goddess Eos, “bringer of dawn,” who would rise from the shores of Okeanos each morning to scatter the shadows of night. The yacht was completed in 2006 and bears the flag of the Cayman Islands. It can accommodate 16 guests and has been known to travel with a 21-person crew.
