After introducing Mrs. June Doucette Burr to the group, Ormberg spoke to the seniors about his relationship with Phil Burr and his admiration for Burr’s courage, character, and dedication throughout his life.

Mrs. Doucette Burr brought several of her husband’s photographs and military awards to share with the senior boys in attendance. She spoke about his time serving in the Navy, including his receiving the Navy Cross, and reflected on the kind of man he was. Each year, she asks every senior to introduce himself and share his plans after graduation.

Mrs. Doucette Burr also provided donuts for the gathering, while volunteers assisted with setting up tables and serving beverages and other treats for the students.

Phil Burr, a 1947 graduate of Medfield High School, lived in Medfield until his passing in 2020. A highly decorated Marine who served during the Korean War, Burr earned both the Purple Heart and the Navy Cross, securing his place in the prestigious Legion of Valor.

(The Legion of Valor of the USA is the oldest Veteran Service Organization in the nation dating continuously from 1890. Its members are recipients of the nation’s two highest honors for valor in combat – the Congressional Medal of Honor and the individual armed services awards for extraordinary heroism in combat – the Navy Cross, the Army Distinguished Service Cross and the Air Force Cross.)
