On October 24th, the town of Medfield, Massachusetts will come alive with the music of its most celebrated native son.

A special concert honoring the extraordinary legacy of Lowell Mason (1792–1872) — widely recognized as the "Father of American Music Education" — will be held at Medfield High School, 88R South Street, Medfield, MA 02052, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:30 PM.

The composer of over 1,600 hymn tunes and the visionary educator who introduced music into the American public school system, Mason began his remarkable journey right here in Medfield — and this evening will bring that story home.
In 1827, Lowell Mason became President of the Handel and Haydn Society (H+H), America's longest continuously performing arts organization.

Since 1815, H+H has brought Baroque and Classical music to life with freshness, vitality, and creativity, while its Youth Choruses nurture the next generation of Greater Boston singers. On Saturday, October 24 at 7:00pm, the H+H Youth Choruses will perform at Medfield High School's Lowell Mason Auditorium, featuring hymns from the Old Colony Collection by Mason and his contemporaries.

Audiences will enjoy performances by HHYC's Youth Chorale, Concert Choir, Chorus of Sopranos + Altos, Chamber Choir, and High School Soloists, showcasing the depth, artistry, and musical excellence of young singers trained in one of the country's most respected choral programs.

"We are honored to welcome the Handel and Haydn Society Youth Choruses to Medfield," said Thomas Scotti, President of the Lowell Mason House. "Their performance will bring Lowell Mason's legacy to life in the very community where his story began."

Proceeds from the performance will benefit the historic Lowell Mason House in Medfield.
