MEDFIELD, MA —As October winds down, the town of Medfield has set its hydrant flushing schedule. The town says flushing will begin on October 23rd in the morning and end at 8 p.m.
Residents are being warned that some water discoloration may occur. If that happens the town says to run cold tap water for a few minutes until the water is clear.
While the process may cause temporary disruptions it does have a few benefits. That includes removing iron, mineral deposits or rust that has built up.
It also clears low-use areas and dead-end water mains, refreshing older water and maintaining proper disinfectant levels.
In the long term flushing hydrants prevents unexpected water main failures, minimizes system water loss, and can help improve a community's insurance ratings.
A full schedule of when flushing will occur can be found online.
