Medford Police Investigating Vehicle Break-in Epidemic

Multiple cars were broken into in one night.

MEDFORD, MA — The police department is warning residents Wednesday after a recent string of motor vehicle break-ins.

Eight vehicles were reportedly broken into overnight between Monday, May 28 and Tuesday, May 19 in West Medford. According to police, all were searched and had items stolen, with one being stolen itself due to the keys being left inside. Expensive electronics and backpacks were among the most notable personal items taken.

The department is emphasizing the importance of locking cars, as they say all eight of the breached vehicles were left unlocked by owners overnight.

“We are urging residents to take a moment to secure their vehicle and remove any valuables from plain sight,” the department said in a statement. “A simple step like locking your doors can significantly reduce the chances of this happening to you.”

Community members who may witness what they think could be a vehicle burglary are being asked to contact police immediately at 781-395-1212.
