Medford Names Next Leader Of Special Education

MEDFORD, MA — Superintendent of Schools Suzanne Galusi announced that she has appointed the district’s next Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and Student Services.

Kimberly Clinton is set to be confirmed by the School Committee during its upcoming meeting on Monday, June 8. She is succeeding Joan Bowen, who is retiring in September after more than 30 years working for Medford Public Schools.

Clinton earned her Master’s degree in education from the University of Massachusetts Boston after graduating from Northeastern University. Since coming to the district in 2008, she has worked as a special education teacher. The last five years saw her as the special education coordinator for both Medford High School and Andrews Middle School. She has also led the district’s Extended School Year program since 2021 and the Home School program since 2025.

According to Galusi, Clinton’s new responsibilities will include overseeing the delivery of special education and student services for students between preschool and high school seniors, leading the district’s robust offerings of substantially separate programs, ensuring Title IX compliance, offering support to the district’s School Counseling, Health and Transportation departments. Clinton is also expected to partner with teachers, educators, administrators, and parent advisory councils to further strengthen compliance, coherence and equitable access to learning.

Clinton expressed gratitude for the opportunity and said she has built a fondness for the school community throughout her tenure so far.

“I am excited to build upon the strong relationships, systems and successes already in place while continuing to strengthen inclusive practices, meaningful collaboration and equitable access to high-quality learning experiences,” Clinton said. “I remain deeply committed to listening, learning and working alongside our community to ensure that all students receive the support, opportunities and sense of belonging they need to reach their fullest potential.”
