MEDFORD, MA — A resident is planning to save and invest after a big State Lottery win.
Leonardo Da Silva Almeida won a $1 million grand prize playing the Massachusetts State Lottery's "50X" scratch ticket game. According to the MSL, Almeida chose the cash option on his prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. He plans to save and invest the winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Public Tavern on 565 Broadway in Somerville. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
"50X" is a $5 scratch ticket that launched in June with four $1 million top prizes. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 4.14. Almeida is the first person to claim one of the game's $1 million grand prizes, leaving three remaining.
Players can win by matching their numbers or bonus numbers to a winning number or by revealing one of several symbols. A money bag symbol automatically wins the prize shown, while 2X, 5X, 10X, 20X, and 50X symbols multiply the prize shown. A star symbol wins double all 15 prizes shown on the ticket.
