Run Medford Rescheduled After Previous Weather Postponement

This charitable weekend with activities for all ages was delayed due to the early nor'easter.

MEDFORD, MA — Run Medford will return later this year after its races were postponed due to inclement weather in September.

The 5K and 10K races will now take place on Saturday, Dec. 5, beginning at 8:15 a.m. outside Medford City Hall. Registration has also reopened, allowing new runners to sign up for either race.

Both the 5K and 10K will start and finish at City Hall and take runners through the city. Additional event and schedule details will be announced as they are finalized.

"We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we worked to secure a new date," Run Medford founder Dave McGillivray said. "We're excited to bring the community together on December 5 to enjoy a morning of running and support Medford's schools."

The races were originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, as part of the annual Run Medford weekend. Organizers postponed them the day before amid forecasts associated with a nor'easter and concerns about conditions for runners, volunteers, staff and public safety personnel.

At the time, forecasts called for heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 40 to 50 mph. Organizers said they were working with Medford officials to find a new date in October, November or December.

Run Medford was founded in 2022 by Medford native McGillivray and the Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation. The annual event includes races and activities for runners of different ages and abilities while raising money for local organizations.

This year's event will benefit Medford schools, with additional donations through the Finish Strong Foundation supporting schools across the city.

New participants can register for the Dec. 5 races through the Run Medford website.
