Melrose Police Warning Residents About Phone Scam

MELROSE, MA — The police department is warning residents about a scam call involving someone pretending to be a local police officer and asking for sensitive personal information.

Police dispatch received a report of a scam call on Monday in which the caller claimed to be "Officer Wilson" of the Melrose Police Department. According to police, the caller asked the resident for bank information as well as their Social Security number.

Officials are reminding Melrose residents that the police department will never call and ask for bank information or Social Security information. Residents should not provide personal or financial information to anyone who makes such a request over the phone.

Anyone who receives a similar call is encouraged to avoid providing any information and contact the police to notify them.
