MELROSE, MA — Residents will have another opportunity to connect with city leaders over complimentary pizza this September.
Each of the city's seven wards has been assigned one of three nights in which Mayor Jen Grigoraitis, city councilors, and School Committee members host neighborhood gatherings catered with pizza from a local restaurant. The purpose of the events is to connect residents with city leadership in an informal setting at local parks and green spaces.
The event kicks off with a combined gathering for Ward 6 and Ward 7 residents at Mary Livermore Park, 26 Felton Place, on Thursday, September 3. The gathering will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Ward 6 is located roughly between Main Street and Mount Hood, while Ward 7 includes the southern portion of the city between Swains Pond and Main Street.
The event will pick back up on Wednesday, September 9, when residents of Wards 2 and 4 can come to Hesseltine Park, 20 Hesseltine Avenue. The gathering will also run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Ward 2 covers the northeastern corner of Melrose, roughly bordered by Porter and Main streets and the Wakefield and Saugus town lines. Ward 4 is located roughly between Ell Pond and Bellevue Golf Course.
After a seven-day hiatus, Slice of the City will resume on Wednesday, September 16, with a gathering for residents of Wards 1, 3, and 5. Ward 1 includes the northwestern portion of the city commonly known as Melrose Highlands. Wards 3 and 5 include the neighborhoods around West Wyoming Avenue and West Foster Street and the southwestern portion of the city near Oak Grove and the Middlesex Fells, respectively.
The final gathering will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The location had yet to be announced when the city released the schedule this week.
