• Melrose School Waiting To Open New Playground To Students Months After Tragedy (patch.com) — Families in Melrose's Winthrop Elementary community are watching a new playground go up months after a tragic tree collapse killed a nine-year-old student, but the area will stay closed for now. City officials are waiting on an independent arborist report about trees on the neighboring Phineas Upham House property before reopening, even though trees on school grounds have already been inspected and addressed.
• Melrose Residents Asked To Weigh In On Community Power Changes (patch.com) — Melrose residents are being asked to review and comment on proposed changes to the city's Community Power electricity aggregation plan during a 30-day public review period ending Oct. 30. The revisions aim to align Melrose's program with new state guidelines, potentially affecting reporting, flexibility, and how local renewable options like Melrose Local Green are offered and updated.
• Eager to help Saugus Veterans (advocatenews.net) — Melrose veterans may notice changes in regional support as Saugus now has a full-time Veterans Service Officer, ending the previous shared arrangement with Wakefield and Melrose. The new officer, retired Army Colonel Joseph Connell, is expanding job resources and planning monthly coffee meetings and updates to better connect North Shore veterans and their families with benefits and services.
