Just got back from the RI Stage Ensemble's production of Hairspray - it was terrific!  Opening night tentativeness in the first few minutes gave way to a beat that got stronger as the night went on.  Very good sound except for a few secondary characters who were not mic'd, with strong vocal performances from Milford Performs friend Rachel Anne Mackenzie as Tracy Turnblad and Maria Norris as Motormouth Mabel.  Michael Harrison as Edna Turnblad stood head and shoulders above the rest of the cast - literally, as he appeared to be about 6 and one-half feet tall plus heels - and delivered his punch lines with a verve that was contagious.  Mikayla and her sister Mackenzie both crushed on David O'Connell as Corny Collins!  It was my first time in the Stadium Theater in Woonsocket - the venue is a bit worn around the edges but quite comfortable with good view lines from where we sat.  Must say it was nice to see a full cast of African Americans in a show about integration.

Hairspray will be presented again Saturday at 7:30 PM and at 2:00 PM on Sunday.  You can't stop the beat - but you can go see a pulsing show in Woonsocket this weekend!
