MILFORD, MA — Milford Public Schools has received almost $200,000 to support literacy instruction for students from fourth grade and up.

Milford Public Schools was one of 16 school districts and educational collaboratives to receieve more than $4.3 million in Partnership for reading Success in Massachusetts III Continuation grants announced by the Healey-Driscoll Administration earlier this month. Milford was granted $194,000 as part of the program.

The PRISM III grants will help implement lasting improvements in English language arts and literacy instruction for students.

The grants focus on the evaluation, selection, purchase and implementation of high-quality instructional materials, the state says. Recipients of the grant engage in one of three tracks: preparing to adopt high-quality instructional materials, launching the implementation of selected materials, or deepening the implementation of materials already in use.

The grants follow initial awards made in summer 2024 to help schools improve English language arts and literacy instruction for grades four through 12. Milford Public Schools was granted $96,245 in the first round.

Other school districts to receive funding included Attleboro, Barnstable, Easthampton, Everett, Haverhill, Hudson, Lowell, Northampton, Somerville, and Ware.

We are making major investments to strengthen literacy and ensure every student in Massachusetts has access to high-quality instructional materials,” said Governor Maura Healey. “These grants will help schools implement proven materials, support educators in the classroom, and give students the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.”
