The charges come after Milford police received a 911 call from a resident on Hayward Street reporting that her husband was confronting a man attempting to steal his van shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday.

While officers were en route, the caller reported that the suspect fled on foot toward East Main Street.

Officers located a man, later identified as Romero, matching the suspect's description near the intersection of East Main and Plain streets at around 1:26 a.m. He was arrested.

“Officers responded quickly as the report of the vehicle owner struggling with the suspect came into our communications center,” said Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino. “I’m thankful that our officers were able to safely capture the suspect before any more homes or vehicles were burglarized.”

Romero was taken to Milford District Court for arraignment on Monday morning.
