3 Children Charged In Milford School Break-Ins, Vandalism

MILFORD, MA — Three juveniles are facing charges after police investigated break-ins and vandalism at two Milford schools this week.

Milford police said detectives received information at about 9:19 a.m. Monday, June 29, about a series of break-ins and vandalism incidents at Stacy Middle School and Memorial Elementary School. Investigators determined the incidents happened over two days, June 26 and June 27, according to police.

Detectives found several acts of vandalism and destruction of school property, including a racial slur graffitied across signage, police said.

Police said detectives reviewed surveillance footage from inside and outside the schools and Milford Public Library. With help from school resource officers, detectives identified three juveniles as suspects.

"The complete lack of respect required to break into and vandalize any property is troubling, but to target places dedicated to educating and developing our children is especially disturbing," Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino said in a statement. "I hope this serves as a turning point for these juveniles and that they recognize the seriousness of their actions before making decisions that could have lasting consequences."

Each juvenile was charged with three counts of breaking and entering into a building during the daytime with intent to commit a felony, three counts of malicious destruction of property and three counts of defacing property, police said.
