MILFORD, MA — A Milford High School alumna is giving back to the district that she says supported her family during a difficult time.
Rebecca Rhodes, a 2006 graduate, presented a $25,000 gift during the Milford School Committee meeting on Thursday, the school district announced. The donation, made in memory of her mother, is earmarked for the Special Education Department and Shining Star Early Childhood Center.
Rhodes presented the gift to Special Education Director Lisa Soto and Shining Star Director Corrie Masterson. The district said she is the daughter of Milford resident Harold Rhodes, an advocate for people with disabilities.
She said Milford educators provided emotional support after an automobile crash left her mother paraplegic. She also credited the district with helping prepare her academically. Rhodes earned a bachelor's degree from Hampshire College in 2010 and a master's degree from Columbia University in 2013.
"This gift is special to me as a way to honor her," Rhodes said, according to the announcement.
Superintendent Craig Consigli thanked Rhodes for supporting students with special needs. "We are proud of Rebecca for her academic achievements and returning to Milford to provide this wonderful gift," he said.
