MILFORD, MA — A longtime volunteer who teaches young people at the Milford Youth Center has recieved a 2026 Individual Appreciation Award.
Brian Bell was recognized for nearly 20 years of service to the center, including his work as a volunteer boxing coach. State Rep. Brian Murray congratulated Bell on Monday, praising his dedication to Milford youths and more than 50 years of boxing and coaching experience.
The Milford Youth Center said Bell couldn't attend its fundraiser at CraftRoots Brewing last month, where it announced the award. Rep. Murray attended the event and presented state citations to the honorees.
Bell has volunteered for more than 150 hours in the boxing program since the center's renovation was completed in 2016, in addition to hundreds of hours contributed before the renovation, the center said. He also helped move supplies, furniture and equipment before the construction project began.
The boxing program is designed to build self-confidence, respect and discipline while providing physical exercise. Bell hopes participants recognize the progress that comes from their work in the program, Murray said.
The Youth Center plans to dedicate its boxing room to Bell during the first boxing program of the school year in October.
