MILFORD, MA — A Milford man is facing charges after police said he fled from a stolen car near Fortune Boulevard this week.
Edwin Santana, 49, who is wanted on a probation violation, was arrested after police said he fled from the Target parking lot at 250 Fortune Blvd. around 7 p.m. Tuesday. He was driving a stolen 2008 gray Toyota Corolla and had an active arrest warrant related to a probation violation in an indecent assault and battery case involving a person 14 or older, according to the Milford Police Department.
Officer Austin Chapski spotted the Corolla traveling at a high rate of speed through the parking lot about 20 minutes after police received information that the vehicle was in Milford, police said.
Chapski attempted to stop the Corolla after it nearly collided with another vehicle and police confirmed it was stolen, according to the department. Police said the driver left the car and ran as Chapski exited his cruiser.
Chapski pursued Santana and took him into custody without further incident as additional officers and K-9 Ozzy arrived to assist, police said.
"I'd like to commend our officers for their professionalism and restraint in bringing this wanted individual into custody without further incident," Police Chief Robert Tusino said.
Santana was held without bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on the warrant and charges of receiving a stolen motor vehicle, operating with a suspended license as a subsequent offense, negligent operation and resisting arrest.
