MILFORD, MA — The state's first indoor slide park is drawing large crowds after making its debut earlier this month.
Slick City Action Park, a 35,000-square-foot park, opened at 31 Beaver St. on Oct. 10. It features 15 slides, along with an arcade, air courts and play areas for younger children.
The business's owner, Eliot Field, brought the action park to Central Massachusetts. He previously owned a trampoline park that installed several slides made by Slick City. He said this is what led him to open the indoor slide park.
"I saw the incredible excitement from children and adults," Field told Patch. "When I heard that they were going to build a family entertainment center around the slides, I knew it would be fun and exciting for people of all ages and wanted to be a part of it."
The Milford park is Slick City's first Massachusetts location and its first in New England. Some of the space's attractions include Riptide, Hyperloop, Turbo Twin and Mega Launch.
Field told Patch that he considered properties throughout the region before selecting Milford. The Beaver Street location offers access to I-495 and is a short distance from the Massachusetts Turnpike, allowing the park to attract visitors from across MetroWest and beyond.
However, construction took longer than expected, delaying an opening that had initially been planned for earlier in the year. Building a new facility was also a new experience for Field.
"I learned a lot and will be better prepared when we work on my second park," Field told Patch.
Since the Milford location opened, Field said weekends have been particularly busy. He encouraged visitors to purchase tickets online ahead of time and said customers may need to park on the street when crowds are large.
The park has a mix of full-time and part-time employees and is still hiring. Staff members live in Milford or within commuting distance, Field said. The workforce includes 16-year-olds starting their first jobs as well as adult employees.
The year-round park offers food including pizza, pretzels and Icees. It also hosts birthday parties and other celebrations.
Field said the business has received many donation requests since opening and plans to increase its support for schools and nonprofit organizations serving children and teenagers. Additional community giving efforts are expected to be announced.
"Slick City Action Park Milford is achieving a dream," Field told Patch. "We built this amazing place for people to come and have fun. I love the excitement from the team and community. It is that energy that shows the hard work has been worth it."
