Dorothy L. (Bell) Stanas

Dorothy L. (Bell) Stanas, 88, of Bancroft Park in Hopedale, a member of  in Milford, died Mon., Dec. 13, in UMass Memorial Medical Center's University Campus in Worcester. She was the wife of the late Louis H. Stanas, who died in 1961.

She was born in Milford, the daughter of the late John R. and Amy (Olivant) Bell, and lived most of her life in Hopedale. She graduated from Hopedale High School and the former Worcester State Teachers College.

Mrs. Stanas was a teacher in the Mendon, Hopedale and Foxboro school systems for more than 40 years, retiring in 1984 from the Foxboro Public School System. She then worked several years at the Bancroft Memorial Library in Hopedale.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and enjoyed reading mystery novels, doing the New York Times crossword puzzles, and needlepoint.

She leaves three sons, Mark L. Stanas of Hopedale, Scott A. and his wife, Kathleen Stanas, of Bluffton, S.C., and Bruce D. and his wife, Debra Stanas, of Bedford, N.H.; a daughter, Melissa L. and her husband, Peter M. Piscia, of Medway; eight grandchildren, Kiera Piscia, Sam Piscia, Max Piscia, John Stanas, Katherine Stanas, Audrey Stanas, Olivia Stanas, and Rose Stanas; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Arthur S. Bell.

Funeral services will be held Thurs., Dec. 16, at 9:00am from the , 42 Congress St., Milford, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 10:00am in Trinity Episcopal Church, 17 Congress St., Milford. Burial will be held at a later date in Hopedale Village Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wed., Dec. 15, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bancroft Memorial Library, 50 Hopedale St., Hopedale, MA 01747.
