A Rising Senior Talent: Natalie Tessicini

The idea of nature inspires me the most. It can be anything, but specifically things involving space, astronomy, and the ocean.

Natalie Tessicini, a rising senior at spends a majority of her time involved in extracurricular activities and serving the community. Many of her interests lie in both music and the arts, which flourish through her involvement in extracurricular activities. The musician part of Natalie begins every other morning. She is second chair trumpet in the wind ensemble, one of the schools’s auditioned bands. However, Natalie’s interest in music does not stop there. She is also involved in other ensembles such as jazz, marching, and select band, which take place throughout the year. Outside school, such love for music can be seen through her involvement in her church’s choir, and even her participation in the Memorial Day Parade where she played Taps.

In addition to holding a keen interest in music, Natalie is also strongly involved in Milford High School’s art department. She has taken Studio 2, and will be taking Studio 3 in the fall. Outside of the department, she has taken classes at the Danforth Art Museum, including a watercolor and mixed media class. Numerous awards have come through her artwork. She has won numerous honorable mentions for her pieces but the most prominent of her awards was in the MassWildlife duck stamp competition, where she placed second her freshman year.

Natalie is a prime example of an exemplary student, as well. She places in the top 10 percent of her class, and is an honorary member of Milford High School’s National Honor Society. Her countless volunteer hours for the community do not end in music, but also extend toward her academic arena.

Natalie is also tremendously insightful. This can be seen in an interview I did with her:

Q: How has high school improved your artwork?

A: In my studio art class we did many projects. We have done multimedia, pastels, and many different types of mediums, styles and principals. We did these to get a basis of good composing. It’s as if, before you can [create] good music you have to know how to read music.

Q: Who has been your inspiration?

A: The idea of nature inspires me the most. It can be anything, but specifically things involving space, astronomy, and the ocean.

Q: Has childhood influenced your achievements?

A: Growing up, my mom has always been the art one, and my dad has always been the science one. So it’s always been a mixture of both. My father and I would go to the ocean and look at the rocks, and the ancient corals washed up on the beach. I would take the things I find in nature for example and do collages with my mother. That’s just a very elementary example, but almost everything I do I have to incorporate science into it.
