Are People Dealing Drugs on Draper Park??

Well are they? I was wondering. Mind you, I'm not accusing anybody. But earlier this evening, after another week of high humidity and the repeated frustration of having the lower-hanging pears all snatched from my pear tree (I know it's not squirrels, because each morning I find the pears with big HUMAN-MOUTH-size bites out of them, tossed back into my yard--haven't people heard of the "ripening process"?), I set out on my usual bicycle ride around the park. And there was a LOT of activity!! People in vans stopping, and jumping out, and carrying paper bags from one house to another house across the street. And I thought to myself, "Are people dealing drugs on Draper Park?"

When I moved into my house on the Park about eighteen years ago, it was such a quiet place. But lots of people in Boston told me to watch out, because Milford was a notorious "drug town". To be honest, I wasn't even sure what that meant, beyond the obvious (no doubt there are drugs--but there are drugs in Weston and Newton, too, if you read the newspapers). Since my arrival, I've had lots of problems with obnoxiously loud and even destructive neighbors, but that--knock on wood--seems to be getting better. I won't deny, however, that there are plenty of clues to late-night revelry--a strong smell of pot on summer evenings, dogs running around and barking at four am (maybe dogs don't like the smell of pot... or maybe THEY DO!), cars and trucks and motorcycles screeching around the park as though in imitation of the dogs. And now the latest pieces of a large and long-term puzzle: cars idling late at night, people running from house to house with paper bags, a murder two blocks away, and way too many cars parked at half the houses on the square. And I ask myself, and my fellow citizens:

Are people dealing drugs on Draper Park???????
