Casino-Free Milford Co-Chairmen John Seaver and Steven Trettel Explain How Milford Residents Can Oppose the Development of a Casino in Milford

Casino-Free Milford explains the seriousness of Foxwoods' casino proposal and provides suggestions for how Milford residents can work together to ensure the casino is not built here.

Casino-Free Milford co-chairmen John Seaver and Steven Trettel have written the following letter to all Milford residents:

We often hear people around town proclaim that a casino will never be built here in Milford. The fact of the matter is this: Foxwoods is currently investing millions of dollars on consultants to design their development and determine the impact of their proposal on Milford. When reporting the amounts being spent by Foxwoods at Monday night’s Selectmen’s meeting, the Shefsky & Froelich attorney emphasized, “It shows they’re serious.”

A good chunk of those millions—nearly $600,000—has been dedicated specifically to strategic communication, public relations, and polling consultants. These funds probably include some walking-around money to do favors for groups in town to demonstrate what generous neighbors they would be. Already Milford’s residents are being asked to take telephone surveys. We expect that soon we will also be subjected to a slick and sophisticated marketing campaign aimed at converting non-believers.

We continue to be completely convinced that allowing a destination resort casino to be built here in Milford would be a serious mistake. The negatives far outnumber any positives. A casino simply does not belong in a residential suburban setting.

Although the developers’ deep pockets can be intimidating, we can work together to preserve our community.
