GOP Seals its Own Fate
Not that "conservatism" is a segment of the political spectrum that has ever produced ideas. Its raison d'etre is to hang on to a largely mythological Golden Age.
This weekend, speakers at the Conservative Political Action Committee clearly ate the fruition of their own long-term campaign to destroy any sense of political economy.
In order to destroy the strong labor/farmer coalition of the mid 20th century that resulted in the triumph of social democracy, the GOP promulgated many myths. One of them was the slice of bacon called "vote for the man, not the party." Which, after many years of that and other anti-Democratic nonsense has brought the GOP to the status of a vapid crusade by a lot of ideologically empty candidates.
Not that "conservatism" is a segment of the political spectrum that has ever produced ideas. It can't because it's raison d'etre is to hang on to a largely mythological Golden Age where in there are no new ideas, just the same old, same old. Instead, to attract a following, the "man" or "woman" not of a party invents crises, harps on issues not relative to a constitutional government in order to seem to be a leader.

Mitt Romney proclaims himself a "severe" conservative and Rick Santorum rails against women's bodies and rights, against freedom of choice. They both invent a false history of their "Golden Age." Facts are not recognized, even a Ph.D. like Newt Gingrich defies reason and fact to build a following. As men, they are empty suits and they have no party.
