Musings and Observations of an 'Old' Milford Man
Guys, why do we get so angry all the time when we get older? I'm so intolerant of everything at this age. I feel like Gran Torino on steroids.
Hello Milford! Welcome to my blog! A couple of weeks ago, the Milford Patch sent out a request looking for bloggers. I passed the rigorous exam of being “literate” – so here I am!
My style is to make you think, make you laugh or make you hate me. If I’ve done none of the above, then please move on to “5 Things You Need to Know Today.” So, I want to use this space, for the most part, to run the gamut on current events – politics, sports, etc.
So, here goes nothing:

• The word “racism.” Why do so many use that word so freely? “Donald Trump is racist!!!!” Why? Because he doesn’t like our president and doesn’t agree with his policies? I don’t agree with Obama’s policies, strategies, etc. – does that make me racist? God, I certainly hope not. Some of these people better cover up their glass houses before they start throwing stones elsewhere…
• There is no one happier about the events that were revealed on Sunday night regarding the killing of Osama Bin Laden. But as a parent, how do I explain these events to my 5 and 7 year olds? Why is the world so happy about the death of another human being? The innocence of childhood. I think a lot of us lost our innocence that day almost 10 years ago. So, this is what I told them, “The country is happy because they killed a man who was responsible for the death of a lot of innocent human beings!” I left out the details of the day. Was it the right approach? I did the best I could. Thoughts?

• Flat tax anyone? I will vote for the first candidate who proposes that! I don’t care if it’s Mickey Mouse!
• This is my son’s first year of t-ball. We’ve been over at the past couple of weeks for games and practice. Talk about total craziness! Hundreds of 5 year old boys running around like there’s no tomorrow!
• Okay, I admit it, the Bruins are reeling me in again. Please don’t disappoint me again. If you do, I will never watch them again! Not until next season anyways…
• I’m 37 years old and I thought I was in the best shape of my life. I take karate over at American Karate Fitness. Ever been punched in the face by a 19 year old? Yeah, me neither – until a couple of weeks ago. Respect your elders, punk! (or I’m gonna pull my pants under my belly button and kick your butt!!!)
• Guys, why do we get so angry all the time when we get older? I’m so intolerant of everything at this age. I feel like Gran Torino on steroids. “Look at those kids with their pants hanging below their waist! These damn co-workers of mine having their personal conversations! Why do my children have to talk louder than a whisper?! Bah humbug!
• 70 million dollars for Prince William and Kate Middleton to be married. 6 billion dollars lost due to the national holiday for the event. Royal family – richest welfare recipient in the world!
• Speaking of, I wonder how much our taxes will go up when our President’s daughter gets married.
• Pet peeve of the week: When I’m out running, please don’t stop me to ask me for directions. Either (a) go out and buy yourself a GPS or (b) ask someone who is standing still for directions. Is it worth me getting nauseous so you know how to get to 140?
• First they remake The Karate Kid. Now I’m hearing The Goonies. Blasphemy!
• Excuse me, neighbors – would you mind picking up your empty bag of Funyuns off of my lawn? Thank you!
• I’d like to thank the manager of The Alamo for walking around every time we are there to ask us how are meal is. Good customer service goes a long way! does this get me a free plate of quesadillas?
• I still can’t get the image of Tom Brady dancing out of my head. I’ve woken up screaming several times from that train wreck he calls dancing. Cut that hair, hippie!
• Are we serious about $4/gallon? Are we paying for a royal wedding with these prices? I don’t see my taxes being adjusted for these gas prices. The media would be crucifying George W. right now with these prices.
• Have to give credit where credit is due though….good job Mr. President for ridding the world of Osama Bin Laden.
• When I get home, I want to make sure the kids know what Memorial Day is all about. I want to make sure they thank a member of the military the next time they see one!
• I leave you with this - my family is helping to setup the fundraiser for our friends, Marla and Lee Baisley – their daughter Summer was diagnosed with Leukemia and immediately began treatment in November of 2010. There is a fundraiser being held at the Hoboken Club in Milford on May 22nd from 4-7 pm. Plenty of food and fun! Your help is truly appreciated!
